Some will a day that tracking is simply looking for footprints, left in the soil. That is a basic definition but incomplete.
Tracking would be more accurately described as using all of the evidence left of someone’s or somethings passage.
The transfer of water, snow, mud, dirt, sand, or anything else from one place to another is fairly common. The nice thing about water is it is fairly easy to get a time stamp on as well, as water can dry fairly quickly. Testing in your environment should be done if want to be able to age tracks.
