Battles of Lexington and Concord

Today marks the anniversary of the first major military battles of the Revolutionary War. Two hundred and fifty one years ago on April 19, 1775 approximately 700 British soldiers marched on Concord to seize Patriot arms and ammunition.

At Lexington approximately 77 Patriot Milita met them. It is unclear who fired first, but the opening volley left eight Patriots dead and ten wounded.

The British continued on to Concord were the British were confronted by 300 – 400 Patriots. Forcing the British withdrawn and leading to a guerrilla style running gun battle, with the British being harassed most of the way back.

Total loses were 273 British and 95 Patriots. The British managed to aquire some ammunition afterall.
