New Year’s Resolutions

It’s the New Year, with it many people make resolutions. Today I’m reflecting upon years of success and failure with resolutions, or goals in general, to establish patterns for success. So here are some ideas to increase your success:

  • Make your goal specific and measurable. Without this you will not be able to show progress and success. Also, it helps you when it is time to plan.
  • Write your goal down.
  • It needs to have a finish date; this changes an idea into a goal.
  • Once the big picture goal has been set, you can work backwards to set goals or benchmarks at intervals throughout the timeline; quarterly, monthly, weekly, daily, etc. Otherwise, it can get pushed onto the backburner.
  • Incorporate other people to keep you on task. Friends and family can be strong motivators, especially if you aren’t a person who can motivate yourself.

Your mileage may vary, but I know if I don’t plan a goal out I find it difficult to make any meaningful progress in it. It seems to me that if you have an idea you have resolved yourself to, that you should take the time to make the steps towards accomplishing your goal.

Have a Blessed New Year!
