Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
That’s a feel good verse right? Have you thought on it much though? I think it sums up the life for a saved follower of Christ well, even if it is sometimes frustratingly true.
What is being a follower Christ about? Giving up control, letting him be in charge, the answer, the one, letting God be God and not leaning on your own understanding. It is hard at the beginning.
I spent 20 years working in military and law enforcement jobs where we were Type A personalities, Alphas, Meat Eaters, what ever you want to call it. It is hard to let anything other than yourself be in charge when you come from that world. But what you think comes secondary to what God has planned you’re not bigger than God, anything else is fighting a losing battle.
A lamp, in the days this was written only shined enough to show you your next step. He lights up the path for you, but only one step at a time. Otherwise you would think you know better than God on how to get where you are going. The word, you know the word means not only the written word in your Bible, but it is also synonymous with Jesus. Don’t believe me, read the book cover to cover and we can debate it.
Its sometimes hard not knowing where the path leads. This verse had kept coming up in my life, when I wanted answers for direction. Well the answer was trust God with each step in its time, because it didn’t matter where we were going if he was leading.
You know what type A personalities like in addition to being in charge and knowing what’s going to happen next? Its going on an adventure, especially when the guy in charge will lead you to and then through more than you could have imagined. So go on an adventure, read the word, all of it. Follow God’s plan, he’ll show you the way, each step at a time.
