I was scrolling through the news and saw an interesting post from the BBC: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-68086188
In a speech, General Sir Patrick stated the need to have the foundation laid for a voluntary service. One which could augment their regular forces should a land war break out.
This sounds like the Home Guard concept (the one we’ve discussed here many times) or the independent companies Britian established in the late 30s against the Nazi threat.
This is coming on the heals of Sweden and Norway telling its citizens to be prepared for open war. Sweden hasn’t had an open war for over 100 years, so they are worried about times changing.
The Finns have been preparing for conflict since shortly after the Ukraine War started. WWII wasn’t kind to them, and they still share a border with Russia. They tried to remain neutral then, and it failed. This subject deserves a whole post or more itself, but for staying on task, sufficed to say I understand why they sought and gained NATO membership. They didn’t want to be left hanging again, and it is likely they would have been left hanging. This means their situation is, yet another flash point that can drag us into yet another war.
Worldwide, we are getting placed on a war footing whether we like it or not. These buildups take time. Those in the defense business can see the indicators. This is why some of the countries are telling their citizens to get ready.
Is this a concern here in the US? After all, it is difficult to cross oceans with an invading force. Unless the invasion looked like a refugee crisis through borders, which are being made wide open for them. When I left the Border Patrol in 2019, this was certainly the case, and from everyone I’ve talked to, it’s only gotten a whole lot worse. A modern massive Trojan Horse?
Texas has identified this as a problem, which is why Governor Abott is all over the news lately. I hope his point prevails without anyone getting hurt.
While I wish it weren’t so, I see the writing on the wall for a period of global conflict, and I see a real threat of it coming home this time, unfortunately.
I still think Jesus, community, training, and preparedness are the answers to these questions.
What do you think? Which areas do you want to learn about? Let me know in the comments.
God Bless.
